1. RESEARCH EXPERIENCES FOR UNDERGRADUATES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA–LINCOLN
The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln offers advanced research training to undergraduates interested in the intersection of psychology and law. The burgeoning of this interdisciplinary area is evidenced by increasing numbers of joint doctoral programs in law and psychology (J.D./Ph.D and J.D./PsyD degrees), an assortment of masters programs (MLS/Ph.D. degrees), and undergraduate specialties. UNL is the natural place to establish an REU program in psychology and law because it was the first institution in the United States to create an undergraduate psychology research laboratory. Further, in 1974 UNL became the first university in North America to offer dual doctors of jurisprudence and philosophy in psychology. UNL maintains a lead program in law and psychology with six full-time and many supporting faculty members devoted to psychology and law education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The REU project at UNL will assemble a cadre of promising undergraduate psychology majors and provide research training for one year in psychology and law. REU participants will join existing research teams comprised of faculty, graduate students, and current UNL undergraduates. REU students will contribute to ongoing empirical research programs. Individual students will propose and complete projects of their own under the direct and close supervision of a research scientist. The students’ faculty mentors will maintain close contact with the students until they finish their bachelor’s programs and successfully enroll in graduate programs or pursue other professional endeavors.

2. Moore Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program
MURAP strives to foster the entrance of talented students from diverse backgrounds into graduate school and faculty positions within the humanities, social sciences, and fine arts .At a broader level, the program seeks to increase the number of minorities and others who demonstrate a commitment to eradicating racial disparities, and who will pursue graduate work and faculty appointments within the academy. MURAP works to achieve its mission by identifying and supporting students of great promise and helping them to become scholars of the highest distinction.
Each summer, the program brings a cohort of 18-22 undergraduates (rising juniors and seniors) to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus for an intensive, ten-week research experience. Students are expected to develop a 20-page research project under the guidance of a faculty mentor with whom they are paired according to areas of study and research interests. In addition to meeting several times a week with faculty mentors, students will:
- attend weekly seminars where they will present their research and discuss that of the faculty and other students in the program
- receive required biweekly instruction in preparation for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
- attend biweekly writing workshops/consultations
- attend a weekly presentation and networking skills workshop
- attend a weekly professionalizing workshop
- participate in a variety of social events and an academic conference
